| 24 Jul 2008 | Soni Alcorn-Hender | Loading...I like this, I was convinced it was hand-inked till I read it was all computer-drawn. That’s a lovely pose (and not an easy one) that you’ve captured very well in a good composition. : ) Charlotte Fire-Valkyrie Ahlgren replies: "Thank you! I think I might try something in this style again. If I ever find the time again..." | |
| 21 Sep 2008 | Elina Orn | Loading...Wow, is this really digitally made from scratch? Even with a tablet, I’ve never been able to do anything from scratch with a computer program; I’ve always needed either a sketch or a photo as a base I’m impressed!
I’m actually glad that, instead of going all manga-style, you mixed in your own style. Makes it so much more unique and interesting. I love the pose (it’s perfect!) and all the details. Great work! Charlotte Fire-Valkyrie Ahlgren replies: "Actually when I started this, I did have a reference I made in Daz Studio. But I wasn’t happy with how it looked and started doodling and got this pose and liked it. Doodling is a good thing "
| 24 Sep 2008 | Marie Östling | Loading...I really like this piece. It’s the most vivid of all of your work. Brilliant colours, great movement and proportions. I, as well, though this was hand-drawn at first. My only complaint is the low resolution. | |

Frankly, I generally like valkyries (as you might notice when looking at my gallery^^), but this one here has something special about her. Maybe it’s the choice of colours, but I think it has also something to do with her facial expression, she seems to be lost in reverie (just as I am very often ). Again, a very good job! Charlotte Fire-Valkyrie Ahlgren replies: "Maybe it’s the "earmuffs"? "
| 22 Jun 2009 | Jared Shinryu Hand | Loading...wow the clothing design and the clothing folds are really cool. also I like how you did with the feathers on the helment. and the coloring is very awsome. Charlotte Fire-Valkyrie Ahlgren replies: "Thanks " | |
| 20 Aug 2009 | Frida Månsson Bergholtz | Loading...Hej Charlotte.
I like the dynamic pose and the hair and headgear. She could use some more fire to be a fire valkyrie though. I can understand that you had some problems colouring the cloak. Before you shade an object you have to understand the shape of it, and the cloak is really undefined. It doesnt fold like cloth it just bulges like a some kind of cloud. Heres a reference picture for you. http://www.wga.hu/art/r/reni/1/atalantb.jpg
Anyway, The word cell shading has its origins from traditional handpainted animation. When the term is used in computer graphics its because its mimics the style of tratitonal animation. However people have started using the term whenever a picture is coloured in a style where the colours are clearly separated and no gradiants and blending are used.
I thought for a long time that it was called cell shading because the colours where separated in "cells" But its really named after the sheets of plastic that the animators painted characters and objects on to separate them from the background.
Well that got a bit lenghty.
Theres a really nice smooth movement to the image. Charlotte Fire-Valkyrie Ahlgren replies: "I tried a longer reply but I think this comment is out of space... so I’ll just say thanks "
